Why must be the lenght/diameter ratio larger than 1.25 for rod mills and much less than 1 for autogenous mills? Danialeb

The length of the shell is usually between 1.5 and 2.5 times its diameter.
This ratio is important because the rods, which are only a few centimetres shorter than the length of the shell, must be prevented from turning and becoming wedged across the diameter of the cylinder.
