The 5th International Flotation Conference (Flotation '11) is organized by MEI in consultation with Prof. D. Bradshaw and Professor Jean-Paul ('J-P') Franzidis. It is sponsored by Maelgwyn Mineral Services, FLSmidth, JKTech, SNF Flomin & Outotec. Media sponsors are International Mining and the Gold & Minerals Gazette.
Flotation '11 features 2 discrete symposia:
November 14-15: Flotation Fundamentals: Physics and Chemistry
Although now over a hundred years old, the fundamental aspects of flotation are still being intensively researched, and new machines developed. This two day symposium will focus on:
* Fundamental reagent and flotation chemistry
* Bubbles, froths, bubble-particle interactions
* Flotation cell hydrodynamics, kinetics and scale-up
The keynote lecture "Bubbles, frother and flotation" will be given by Prof. James Finch, of McGill University, Canada, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
November 16-17: Flotation Applications and Plant Practice
This two day symposium focuses on the application of flotation, and will include sessions on:
* Plant Operations, particularly related to new technology, and process mineralogy problems
* Flotation Circuits, and their modelling, simulation, control and optimisation
* Flotation machine developments
* Metallic, non-metallic and coal flotation
* Environmental considerations
The keynote lecture "When are flotation models useful?" will be given by Dr. Dan Alexander, CEO of JKTech Pty Ltd, Australia.
Call for Papers
Papers are invited for presentation at Flotation '11. All papers must be written and presented in English, the official language of the conference.
Abstract Submission
Short abstracts, of no more than 150 words, should be emailed to Dr. Barry Wills (bwills@min-eng.com) by the end of June 2011.
Draft Papers
If accepted, draft papers will be required. These will form the unrefereed Proceedings, which will be available to delegates on a CD-ROM at the conference. Copyright on these papers belongs to the individual authors, and not to MEI.
Final Papers
Final papers should be submitted no later than one month after the end of the conference. Authors have two options:
1) Submission to Minerals Engineering, the world's number 1 journal in mineral processing and extractive metallurgy, with the highest impact factor, and rated a maximum A* by the Australian Research Council. These will be refereed, and, if accepted, published in a special Flotation issue of the journal. Corresponding authors will receive one complimentary copy of this special issue. All other delegates may purchase the special issue from Elsevier Science Ltd at a discounted rate.
2) Submission to the Journal of the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM). The Journal is a recognized Department of Higher Education and Training accredited journal, with ABC accreditation by the Audit Bureau of Circulation of South Africa. The content of the Journal comprises Transactional and Journal papers. Transactional papers are of a very technical nature and are subject to stringent reviewing procedures while journal papers are of a more general and practical nature and go through a less severe reviewing process. Papers can be sent to the SAIMM publications coordinator, Caron Lance at caron@saimm.co.za.
